Unless you are some sort of sadist, seeing someone upset is a difficult experience. The universal sign of sadness is crying.

Why you would want to make anyone cry is beyond us. And yet a fashion craze currently sees teenage girls and young female adults wear t-shirts that have the words “I love to make boys cry” emblazoned on them.

This is misandry in action. Does anyone seem to care? No. If the t-shirts were the other way round, there would be fury. So why is this allowed?

Why would you want to make anyone cry?

T-Shirts

The t-shirts are on sale in many stores. Simply typing in “I love to make boys cry”, or “make boys cry” into Google results in countless products coming up.

The general approach is a bland white or black t-shirt, with the words printed on. They sell for relatively cheap – as per fast fashion.

It is common to see girls wearing them. This includes teenage girls and even some young female adults. Hating men is becoming normalised.

Rapper Megan Thee Stallion posted a picture to her Instagram account in April 2023 wearing the t-shirt. It attracted around 3 million likes. This would’ve normalised it further for her female fans.

Why would anyone buy it? Perhaps they see it as empowering? Or are girls being conditioned into feeling that hatred for men is normal?

The damage on men

Society acts like the mental health of men matters. But if you’re having a tough day, breaking down on the inside, fighting back tears, and then you see a t-shirt like that – it may be the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Then there are boys that are young and impressionable. There is tangible concern about how some boys are exposed to the likes of Andrew Tate and his supposedly misogynistic views.

However, if you grow up in a world that hates men – then it is only natural to turn to someone that is actually defending them.

Growing up as a boy is difficult – regardless of what people say. Seeing society normalise hating you for your existence doesn’t help.

Double standards

If you are reading this and still questioning if this is a big deal or not – just think about it the other way round.

If you saw a man strutting down the street with a “I love to make girls cry” t-shirt on, all hell would break loose. A public lynching may even take place.

But the other way round – there is nothing. No outrage, no one cares. This is misandry happening before out very eyes.

A search on Etsy for a male version of the t-shirt comes up with one result that matches the description. It is much more expensive than the other t-shirts.

But as seen in the picture below, even a “make girl cry t shirt” search ends up with a results for the boy crying clothing.

The opposite does not seem to exist

The Takeaway

It is regrettable to see t-shirts like this being popular. Hating men appears to be fashionable. If someone wants to wear it – fair enough, everyone is entitled to wear what they want. But the double standards are concerning.

Hopefully we can move towards a world where – as those who support such t-shirts want – equality is normal. T-shirts like this only stoke divisions.
